The Joy of Self-Giving

The Life of Mother María Josefa of the Heart of Jesus

Mother María Josefa of the Heart of Jesus entered the Discalced Carmelite Community of Cerro de los Ángeles under the guidance of Saint Maravillas of Jesus, Prioress and Novice Mistress. She was one of Mother Maravillas’ beloved daughters, collaborated with her in all her foundations, and after her death, faithfully preserved her spirit, sacrificing herself without counting the cost — all for Love.

A faithful daughter of Saint Teresa of Jesus, she worked tirelessly to preserve her legacy in all its purity, promoting new constitutions in line with the norms of the Second Vatican Council, returning to the sources and to the spirit of the Founders.

Throughout her life, she practiced the virtues of humility, simplicity, self-forgetfulness, and a charity that extended to all, especially the most in need.

She died in the odor of sanctity on October 2, 2004. On June 1, 2013, the solemn opening of the Canonization process for Mother María Josefa of the Heart of Jesus took place.
