Goya Producciones celebrated its 25th anniversary at a commemorative gala held at Cine Proyecciones in Madrid on Monday, October 20, in the presence of guests from the audiovisual, ecclesiastical, and cultural communities. The event, hosted by Irene Pozo, reviewed a quarter of a century of evangelizing work through cinema, from its humble beginnings on Goya Street to its current international presence in more than 30 countries.

The founder and director, Andrés Garrigó, recalled the production company´s “improbable” beginnings, lacking any prior audiovisual experience or a defined market. However, it was sustained, he said, ‘by Providence and the generosity of friends and patrons who believed in the project even when there was nothing to start with’. The first to donate were Luis Infante Bravo and José María García-Hoz.

During the event, four commemorative videos were screened, highlighting different stages of the production company: from the early documentaries such as The Shroud of Christ or The Holy Grail, through extensive series of programs for Catholic television channels around the world, to major fiction productions such as PovedaLight of SoledadPetra of Saint JosephAn Ardent HeartA Father´s Heart or Guadalupe: Mother of Humanity.

Particular interest was aroused by the intervention of Pablo Moreno, who has directed several Goya films over 20 years of uninterrupted collaboration.

A teaser for Goya’s next feature film, Searching for the Messiah, was also screened for the first time. The film, which is already in production, follows the paths of prominent Jews, past and present, to the Catholic faith.

Monika Higueras-Gutowska, head of the international area, commented on the growing expansion around the world.

Goya’s productions have been exhibited in more than 30 countries on five continents, with Australia recently added to this list. Translated into more than a dozen languages, Goya Producciones’ films and documentaries have been watched by millions of people in cinemas, on television, and on DVDs and streaming platforms, and have won multiple international awards. Monika stressed that the company not only produces films and documentaries but distributes them. As such, the film ‘Triumph over Evil‘, about exorcisms and spiritual battle, will be released in 700 theaters across the United States on October 30.

The event featured video messages from notable figures in the Catholic and audiovisual world, including Michael Warsaw, the president of EWTN worldwide. He commented that “our foundress, Mother Angelica, would be very happy and proud of this collaboration that has lasted so many years.”

Other congratulations were received from Argentine Catholic singer Athenas; Gaby Jacoba and Carlos Botero, who are distributors in Latin America and Colombia, respectively; as well as Przemysław Wręźlewicz, Director of the Polish Rafael Film, along with Angela Morais, Director of Kolbe Arte from Brazil.

In his final address, Andrés Garrigó expressed profound gratitude “to God, to the Virgin, to the team- especially producer and executive director, Josemaría Muñoz, and to all those who have supported this apostolate with their work, donations and prayers”. He then announced his ambitious next project: an audiovisual adaptation based on “Him and Me”, by Gabrielle Bossis, the 20th-century French laywoman who received locutions from Christ. Through Andrés’ initiative, a translation of her complete work has been prepared and will be published by Ediciones Rialp on November 1. “Goya’s role,” Garrigó announced, “will be to gradually deliver these messages of Jesus to screens throughout the world, including those of mobile phones”.

Msgr. José Ignacio Munilla closed the gala with a powerful video message: “You have been constant, hardworking, and you have not tired. You have offered the Church a great work in the service of the Gospel“.

The event concluded with a cocktail for the next 25 years of value-based cinema, in collaboration with the Telefamilia Foundation, which also celebrated its 25th anniversary as a guarantor of the charism of Goya Producciones and its evangelizing mission.
